BONGAO, TAWI TAWI ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) formally launched the 2030 Year of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage (2030 YPMHH) through the unveiling of its official logo and theme on the 644 th Sheikh Makhdum Day celebrations, 7 November 2024, in Simunul, Tawi Tawi. NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose, Jr., BCPCH Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa, and NCMF Regional Director Zulfikar Abantas led the official logo launching alongside Tawi Tawi Governor Yshmael I. Sali, Simunul Mayor Wasilah Abdurahman, and Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs Almarim C. Tillah.
The 2030 Year of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage is a multi-year observance directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. through Administrative Order No. 10, s. 2023. It directs the National Organizing Committee, led by the NHCP with the NCMF, Bangsamoro Government, Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Tourism (DOT), and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU); to plan, organize, and undertake programs and projects that aim to highlight and recognize Muslim history and heritage in relation to and as a part of Philippine history and culture.
Alongside the logo launch, the NHCP also signed agreements with the local government units of Simunul and Sibutu, Tawi Tawi for the engineering studies of the Masjid Sheikh Makhdum and Sheikh Makhdum Burial Site respectively. A tripartite agreement between the NHCP, NCMF, and BCPCH was also signed for a multi-year capacity-building and knowledge sharing framework for the continuous improvement of their respective functions.
The NHCP is the primary agency mandated with strengthening nationalism through the promotion of our history and protection of our cultural heritage.
