A total of 1,375 waitlisted applicants were given a second chance by Mayor Klarex Uy to enter the City College Scholarship Program during a ceremony held on Friday, July 3, at the Capitol University Gymnasium in the city.

The new city scholars will study at PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College (PHINMA-COC). Under the scholarship arrangement, PHINMA-COC will cover 75% of the students’ tuition, miscellaneous, and laboratory fees, while the remaining 25% will be shouldered by the Cagayan de Oro City Government (LGU-CDO).

During the event, Mayor Klarex Uy emphasized that he is investing in the future of the city’s youth and reminded the scholars not to waste the opportunity they have been given.

The mayor also shared how the scholars could preserve their scholarships.

Also present at the event were City Councilor Moreno “Jing” Daba, chairperson of the Committee on Education of the 21st City Council, officials from the City Education and Development Office (CEDO) led by CEDO Department Manager Richel Petalcurin-Dahay, and representatives from PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College.

The waitlisted applicants will become beneficiaries of the “Haway Kamay-MKU Scholarship Program,” a partnership between PHINMA-COC and Mayor Klarex Uy. The program aims to provide educational opportunities for students who did not qualify for the City Scholarship Program, as well as out-of-school youth.

The second chance extended by Mayor Klarex Uy to the waitlisted applicants demonstrates his strong commitment to the welfare of the youth and his determination to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to succeed in their education despite financial hardship.
