Vice President Sara Duterte Ready to Face Impeachment Proceedings, Vows to Uphold Integrity

April 1, 2025 — Manila, Philippines

Amid ongoing political turmoil, Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed her readiness to confront the impeachment charges against her, pledging to uphold her integrity and honor as she faces the legal and political challenges ahead.

Duterte, who has been in the spotlight following the impeachment proceedings initiated by members of the Philippine House of Representatives, made it clear that she will address the accusations head-on. The charges against her include allegations of corruption, abuse of power, and other misconduct, which have shaken the political landscape in the country.

“The accusations against me are serious, but I am ready to face these challenges with honesty and transparency,” said Duterte in a statement issued from her office. She continued, “I trust in the legal process, and I believe in my innocence. I will continue to serve the Filipino people to the best of my ability while resolving these issues.”

In addition to the impeachment proceedings, Duterte’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is facing charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. His arrest in March 2025, related to his controversial war on drugs, has added further pressure on the Duterte family. Despite these challenges, Vice President Duterte has remained committed to her duties, including supporting her father during his legal battles abroad.

Political analysts suggest that Vice President Duterte’s handling of both the impeachment proceedings and her father’s legal situation will be crucial in shaping her future in Philippine politics. Her political allies have rallied behind her, emphasizing that she is being unfairly targeted due to her political prominence.

As the impeachment moves forward, Duterte’s legal team has promised to mount a robust defense, citing flaws in the charges and the political motivations behind them. The Senate is expected to schedule hearings in the coming weeks to formally begin the trial process.

“I have always believed in serving with integrity, and I will continue to do so,” Duterte concluded in her statement. “I remain committed to my work and to the people of the Philippines.”

While political tensions rise, many are closely watching how this case will unfold in the coming months, as the future of Vice President Duterte’s political career hangs in the balance.
