The hypocrisy of Speaker Martin Romualdez is glaringly evident as he stands before the Filipino people, preaching accountability while leading a House of Representatives mired in corruption. His claims of integrity and commitment to the public are smeared by the reality that his institution is deeply entrenched in manipulation and deceit.

Romualdez’s rhetoric about undermining work rings hollow when juxtaposed with the actions of Congress. Year after year, lawmakers approve phantom projects and inflate budgets, enriching themselves at the expense of the nation’s welfare. This dissonance between their lavish lifestyles and their role as public servants exemplifies a profound moral failure.

The distribution of “Ayuda” serves more as a vote-buying tactic than genuine assistance. Billions are siphoned from taxpayer money into personal coffers, leaving little for vital services like infrastructure and education. The wealth enjoyed by these lawmakers conveys a real picture the poverty faced by many Filipinos.

Budget insertions further illustrate this hypocrisy, diverting funds from essential services to self-serving projects hidden within complex budget documents. When accountability is demanded, Romualdez offers vague certifications instead of transparency, allowing corruption to fester without consequence.

The Filipino people’s trust is being eroded under Romualdez’s leadership. It is not external critics who undermine Congress; rather, it is its own members who betray public trust through corruption and deception. The call for true accountability must resonate louder than ever if meaningful change is to be achieved in this government.Frustration looms and rebellion is inevitible when the people demands the truth and transparency. They grow tired and hopeless when no one seems to face consequences and punishment is hardly given.
