SMUGGLED CIGARETTES WORTH P240K SEIZED IN LANAO DEL NORTE CHECKPOINT

CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) intercepted an estimated PhP240,000.00 worth of smuggled cigarettes during a checkpoint operation in Brgy. Bansarvil I, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, on Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 2025.

The operation was conducted at around 2:00 PM by 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), in coordination with Kapatagan Municipal Police Station and the SND Maritime Mobile Team. Authorities flagged down an orange Mazda Bongo, and upon inspection, several sacks of alleged smuggled cigarettes were discovered in plain view at the back of the vehicle.

The vehicle was driven by a 27-year-old man identified as alias “Kali,” a resident of Salvador, Lanao del Norte. He was accompanied by two passengers: a 27-year-old jobless man from Siraway, Zamboanga City, and a 17-year-old minor.

Seized from the vehicle were six sacks of New Far Red cigarettes, each containing 50 reams, with a total estimated market value of PhP240,000.00.

Accordingly, the cigarettes originated from Sultan Naga Dimaporo and were being transported to Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

All individuals, along with the confiscated items and the vehicle, were brought to the Kapatagan Municipal Police Station, Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office, for documentation. The seized cigarettes will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Iligan City for proper disposition.

PBGEN ROLINDO M SUGUILON, Regional Director, PRO10, lauded the personnel involved in the operation.

“This successful interdiction of smuggled goods is a result of our intensified checkpoint operations. PRO10 will remain steadfast in its efforts to stop these illegal activities. We call on the public to support us by being vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities in their communities,” he said.
