Cagayan de Oro City – Authorities confiscated more or less 90 reams of smuggled cigarettes during a joint operation at Carmen and Cogon public markets on March 6, 2026. The operation was led by the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) under the leadership of PCol. Dexter Paje, city director.

The activity was part of Mayor Rolando “Klarex” A. Uy’s RISE agenda, focusing on economic recovery. Smuggled goods, including cigarettes, negatively impact the local economy, prompting the city government to crack down on such activities.

The operation involved various police station operatives, Task Force Oro, and the CDO Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB). The authorities are now working to dispose of the confiscated items according to procedure.

The joint operation demonstrates the city’s commitment to curbing smuggling and protecting local businesses. Mayor Uy’s administration continues to prioritize economic recovery and compliance with regulations.

The COCPO and partner agencies urge citizens to report any information on smuggling activities, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining a fair and thriving local economy.
