Senate President Calls for AFP, PNP Neutrality

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero has emphasized the importance of maintaining the neutrality of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), urging their members to remain committed to their duties without political influence.

In a statement on Monday, March 24, Escudero reiterated that the AFP and PNP must uphold their mandate to serve and protect the nation impartially. He stressed that avoiding political involvement is crucial in ensuring the integrity of these institutions and preserving public trust.

“The AFP and PNP play a vital role in safeguarding national security and upholding democratic institutions. It is imperative that they remain neutral and focused on their sworn responsibilities,” Escudero said. He added that political bias within these forces could erode their credibility and weaken the foundations of law enforcement and defense.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions on the role of security forces in governance and public service. With the country facing various challenges, including internal security threats and external geopolitical tensions, Escudero underscored the need for a disciplined and nonpartisan military and police force to maintain stability and order.

Escudero also called on government leaders to support measures that reinforce professionalism and neutrality within the AFP and PNP. He highlighted the importance of continuous training and strict adherence to ethical standards to ensure that these institutions remain dedicated to their constitutional duties.

As the leader of the Senate, Escudero reaffirmed the critical role of the AFP and PNP in protecting democratic institutions and ensuring peace and security in the Philippines. He urged both organizations to remain steadfast in their commitment to public service, free from political distractions, for the benefit of the Filipino people.
