HARDWORKING Sen. Christopher Lawrence Go led two events in Cagayan de Oro City November 11 – the turnover of a super health center in barangay Kauswagan and the distribution of assistance to 500 families who are victims of past fire incidents in 24 barangays.

The first event that was held in the morning was also timed with the inauguration of a nearby barangay economic enterprise building which was equally graced by former Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. The two served together between 2019 to 2025 and it was Pimentel’s lobbying which caused the construction of the barangay economic enterprise building.

For his part, Kauswagan barangay chairman Leonard Jan Lim was all gratitude to the two legislators.

“”Today is a significant and meaningful day in our barangay. These facilities are symbols of progress, better public service, improved health care and greater opportunities for our communities,” Lim said.

Since it is a super health center, the facility at barangay Kauswagan is equipped with birthing rooms, isolation rooms and ambulatory surgical units with expandability for x-rays, ultrasounds, ECGs and dialysis units aside from its core services such as general medical consultations, family planning, TB-DOTS support, clinical laboratory diagnostics such as CBC, blood sugar and pregnancy tests, and a pharmacy.

The super health center was institutionalized by the Department of Health (DOH) through the passage of Republic Act 11223, otherwise known as Universal Health Care Act, which is principally authored by Go.

“Mapaduol sa mga residente ang mga nag-unang serbisyong medikal sama sa konsultasyon, mga laboratory test, ug uban pang serbisyo panglawas,” Go said.

At the second event in the afternoon in Macabalan, fire victims from 24 barangays in Cagayan de Oro City converged at Piaping Puti covered court for financial assistance in at P10,000 each.

This aid – coursed through the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) emergency housing assistance program – is another landmark initiative institutionalized by Go. It provides immediate cash to low and marginal income families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by natural or human-made calamities.

Go also used the occasion to hand out groceries, basketballs and pickleballs to the stricken families. He also raffled off bikes, shoes and watches to lucky members of the audience.
