MANILA , Secretary Larry Gadon, Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation on maintaining ,sustaining and strengthening trade relations between the Philippines and Singapore graced the Global Fusion 2024:, Business Fusion , unlocking opportunities Between Singapore and Philippines as Keynote Speaker . Based on the document provided to Manila Times , it was stated that the business forum serves as a pivotal platform for stakeholders from both countries to explore new avenues of collaboration , forge strategic partnership ,and contribute to the enduring success of bilateral economic relations.
The forum also aimed to strengthen business relations between the two nations, which have maintained strong economic ties since 1969. The event was attended by 40 delegates, including representatives from 20 companies, and was held at the Maynila Ballroom, Manila Hotel, on August 20, 2024. Singaporean delegates brought with them technology and product samples, with plans to establish factories in the Philippines.
Secretary Gadon in his speech as keynote speaker told the delegates that , “I understand that this Global Fusion partnership aims to provide opportunities for both the Philippines and Singapore in trade. I have met the head of the Singapore delegation, and I am glad that Singapore has sent a delegation for this event. Singapore is a valuable trading partner for the Philippines. Though it has a smaller population—around 6 million compared to our 115 million—their per capita income is significantly higher, at $83,000, while ours is just $3,600 as of 2023.”

He further emphasized the potential of Singapore as a market for Filipino products: “Despite its smaller population, Singapore offers a good market due to its high purchasing power. There are 600,000 Muslim residents in Singapore, which is an excellent target market for our halal products. I’ve seen Filipino products, like dried fruits and processed seafood, being sold in Singapore’s convenience stores and supermarkets, indicating a vibrant trade exchange between our countries. The Philippines can certainly benefit from expanding this relationship.”
Gadon continued, “This event is encouraging as it promotes and strengthens our trade relations with Singapore. I hope we all work toward better cooperation and trading relationships with Singapore. Mabuhay ang Bagong Pilipinas, Mabuhay ang Singapore.”
The event organizers, led by Amielyn M. Limbona, former Commissioner of the Philippine National Commission on Women and President of Arkat Lawanen Inc., along with Agnes M. Alimbong, founding director of Filipino World, were praised for their efforts. Limbona is also a consultant for the DTI Halal Industry Development Program.
Dave Tan, head of the Singapore delegation, announced plans to invest in the Philippines through KAYA Company, which is known for its famous halal spread. According to Limbona, this opportunity offers further business possibilities, with Singaporean investors showing interest in sectors such as BPO, manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture.
The event was also attended by various government officials, with commitment of support to help their investment flourish in our country. Among them is PCW Commissioner Myrna T. Radia Dimnatang, Project Manager of the Regional Halal Industry, urged the delegates to focus on digital transformation and innovation-driven growth, highlighting the potential of shared economic interests to boost the halal industry in the Philippines.
The cultural night gala, attended by Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor Logaventhan Karupppanan, showcased the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage through traditional dances. A subsequent economic zone tour in Cavite on August 23 allowed delegates to visit manufacturing facilities, further enhancing investment opportunities.
As both nations navigate the complexities of the global economy, the development of the halal industry in the Philippines remains a priority, with both countries committed to nurturing this valuable economic partnership. ###
