CONSTRUCTION of the second wastewater treatment facility at Cogon Market, worth ₱12.4 million, began on Tuesday, June 23, according to an announcement from the City Economic Enterprise and Business Development Administration (CEEBDA).

Because of this, CEEBDA General Manager Atty. Marriane G. Ragas appealed for the public’s understanding and apologized for the additional traffic congestion, especially around the intersection of Yacapin and Osmeña Streets.

Ragas explained that the project, which was donated by the government of Japan, is important in ensuring that water discharged from the market is properly treated before it flows into rivers and the sea.

She added that it will help prevent illnesses caused by contaminated water, or waterborne diseases.

The project also complies with the mandate of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to implement the country’s Clean Water Act.

The construction of the facility is expected to take four months to complete. (Text and photo by CEEBDA)
