SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — Vice President Sara Duterte allowed local reporters to interview her during her visit to Barangay Bigaan in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, on Wednesday, but questions on her impeachment trial before the Senate were not entertained.

Duterte attended the barangay’s patronal fiesta, where local media were given a chance to ask her about her visit and her message to residents.

The interview came a day after Duterte made a brief statement to reporters at the Senate on Tuesday, saying: “In this bloodbath and bludgeoning, I will be bloodied but unbowed.” Reporters, however, were unable to ask follow-up questions.

During an interview with John Sahay, reporter of DXGP 89.7 FM, Duterte was asked for her reaction to the current situation in the country.

In response, the Vice President called on public officials to uphold transparency and accountability, remarks that touched on issues also being discussed in connection with the articles of impeachment pending before the Senate.

She also urged government officials to focus on order, peace, and development, saying Filipinos had long aspired for a more prosperous life.

“To my countrymen, do not lose hope. There will be changes in our nation,” Duterte said.

Duterte also reminded families in Barangay Bigaan to strive for self-reliance and called on local officials to help maintain peace and bring progress to their communities.

“With this situation, parents will have small businesses and jobs because there is peace,” she said.

She likewise addressed the youth, whom she described as the future stewards of the country, urging them to value discipline so they could finish their studies.

The Vice President also cited the work of the Office of the Vice President’s satellite office in Butuan City, which she said has been delivering food and nonfood items to indigent families and individuals in crisis situations.

According to Duterte, the OVP has also been extending financial assistance for livelihood activities of individuals and groups. She also mentioned the office’s “Pagbabagoo Campaign,” a nationwide initiative that includes tree-planting activities.

Duterte’s visit to Surigao del Sur came as her impeachment trial continued to draw national attention.
