CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: An preacher of a relegious group was gunned down outside his office in Julio Pacana St,, Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City, Thursday morning. The victim identified as Banjamin Mendez,65, a Preacher of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), died on the spot of gunshot wounds outside his office in the SDA compound. Mendez, also an SDATreasurer, was having a meeting with colleagues in his office, but went out to retrieve some documents in his car parked in ttecSDA compound. Winesses told the police that the suspect, apparently waiting outside, gunned down Mendez just he stepped out of the office door. The victim instantly died at the doorstep due to several bullet wounds on his body. The suspect identified as Jimboy Abesta, also a member of the SDA, was reportedly nabbed during a hot pursuit operations by the combined operatives of the local police and the Criminal Investigatoon Group (CIDG). Abesta, considered a person of interest, is now in the custody of the CIDG regional office in Camp Evamgelista, Cagayan de Oro City. The CIDG has yet to issue a statement about the motive of the shooting.
