SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur–The Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) has reminded its personnel to remain apolitical and refrain from publicly expressing or posting personal political opinions, particularly on social media, a press statement by the Police Regional Office 13 said.
In a statement, PRO 13 said the reminder forms part of its commitment to uphold the Constitution, the rule of law and the Philippine National Police (PNP) policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of its personnel.
PRO 13 did not identify or name any police officer allegedly involved in political activities or found to have violated the policy.
The regional police office said all PNP personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and impartiality and to exercise prudence and restraint when expressing personal political views in public or on social media.
Such public expressions, it said, could affect the credibility, neutrality and integrity of the police organization.
“The PNP respects the rights of its personnel; however, such rights must be exercised consistently with existing laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing PNP personnel,” PRO 13 said.
The police office also reminded its personnel that wearing the PNP uniform carries the responsibility to serve all people fairly and impartially while maintaining professionalism at all times.
PRO 13 urged its personnel to remain focused on their mandate to protect communities, maintain peace and order, enforce the law impartially and preserve public trust and confidence in the police service.
It also warned that personnel found violating applicable laws, policies, rules and regulations could face appropriate administrative, civil or criminal proceedings, depending on the circumstances.
PRO 13 Regional Director PBGen. Rolindo M. Suguilon said the regional police office remains committed to maintaining a disciplined, impartial and professional police force dedicated to serving God, the country and the people with integrity, honor and respect for the rule of law.
The reminder underscores the distinction between the personal rights of police personnel and the professional responsibilities attached to membership in the police organization.
