The Philippine National Police (PNP) has declared its readiness to assist the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) should arrest warrants be issued against individuals linked to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign.
PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. affirmed the police force’s commitment to upholding the law and cooperating with international agencies in pursuit of justice.
“If requested, we will provide necessary assistance in serving warrants related to the previous administration’s drug war,” Acorda stated.
The statement comes amid the ongoing investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into alleged crimes against humanity committed during Duterte’s tenure. The crackdown on illegal drugs, which resulted in thousands of deaths, remains a contentious issue both domestically and internationally.
While the PNP has expressed its willingness to cooperate, the situation presents legal and political complexities, particularly concerning international jurisdiction and national sovereignty. The ICC’s probe has drawn both support and criticism, fueling debates on accountability and governance in the Philippines.
