The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that security measures are in place for a scheduled rally in Manila this afternoon, organized by supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The gathering follows the pre-trial proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC) concerning allegations of crimes against humanity related to Duterte’s administration’s anti-drug campaign.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo stated that authorities are closely monitoring designated rally sites. “It is standard procedure for the PNP to adjust our alert status to ensure readiness,” Fajardo said in a radio interview.
She emphasized that the police presence at rallies is meant to maintain order and protect participants, not to engage in confrontations. “Our officers are there to observe and safeguard rally participants for their security and safety,” she explained.
Fajardo also assured that law enforcement would work to prevent any disruptions or incidents during the event. “So far, we have not detected any tensions arising among those showing support for the former president,” she noted.
She reiterated that police personnel would continue monitoring the event to maintain peace and order. “Our officers remain on standby to ensure everything proceeds smoothly,” she added.
The rally is set to take place at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.
