The Philippines marked a historic milestone in its digitalization journey with the successful launch of the AGILA satellite. Orbits Satellite Corp., led by President Atty. Augusto Baculio, in partnership with Astranis, spearheaded this groundbreaking initiative to provide affordable and high-quality internet connectivity nationwide.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. christened the satellite “AGILA” during a ceremonial signing in California last December 2023, underscoring the nation’s commitment to digital advancement.
# Launch Details
The AGILA satellite lifted off aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. It will reach its geostationary orbit 35,786 kilometers above Earth by April and commence data transmission by May 2025.
# Expanding Connectivity
Atty. Baculio emphasized, “AGILA represents a significant leap forward in bridging the digital divide, empowering remote communities through seamless connectivity.” Orbits Satellite Corp. aims to provide internet access to unserved and underserved areas, fueling economic growth, education and innovation.
