A total of 306 participants from 15 countries will compete in 5i50 Triathlon on May 3 in Camiguin, its third leg this year.

Catarman Mayor Kit Palarca (third from left) gives all out support to the athletes.

Princess Galura, general manager of Ironman Philippines and organizer of this year’s event, said that participants come from Brazil, United States, Australia, Japan, Singapore, China, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and host country the Philippines.

This is the second leg of the 2026 5i50 Triathlon, an accredited Ironman competition. The first one was held in Guimaras.

The participants will swim on the surface of the sunken cemetery off the shores of Catarman town, then shift to biking to start at the Spanish church ruins before sprinting off to the finish line at the spectacular Pedro P. Romualdo provincial sports complex in the capital of Mambajao.

According to Galura, the organizers were impressed of the efforts of Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo and Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo in transforming Camiguin as a tourism sports destination.

By combining world-class competition with some of the country’s most breathtaking island landscapes, the series underscores a coordinated push to elevate both sport and tourism on the international stage.
