EL Salvador City grabbed home P35,000 in the opening salvo of the National Tourism Week this year as champions of the cultural dance contest, the first of weeklong competitions that will last up to Friday.
From the mountains to the coast, from one community to another—ten festivals from all corners of Misamis Oriental came together for one spectacular celebration of culture, heritage, and pride.
National Tourism Week in the Philippines is celebrated during the last week of September every year by virtue of Proclamation No. 894 signed in 1996 and Misamis Oriental has celebrated it ever since.
Governor Juliette T. Uy – represented by board member Princess Emano – earnestly invites everyone to join in celebrating the destinations, culture, heritage, flavors, creativity and people that make Misamis Oriental truly Uniquely MisOr.
Apart from the dance contest, the weeklong celebration includes a food expo at the Vicente de Lara park, MisOr singing ambassador contest, a trivia contest for Capitol employees, among others.
The celebration this year looks beyond the traditional ways of promoting and experiencing tourism—to embrace digital innovation, artificial intelligence, creativity, and technology as powerful tools in shaping the future of our destinations.
On the last day of the celebration, the Uniquely MisOr Tourism Awards will be given to deserving LGUs in the following categories: best tourism week celebration, best local event, best religious festival, best cultural festival, best tourism video and best tourism brochure.
“These celebrations have demonstrated how tourism can bring communities together through meaningful activities, creative promotions, local experiences, and strong community participation—turning a week or month-long celebration into an opportunity to showcase the unique character of each destination,” according to provincial tourism officer Cindy Obenita.
