THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Misamis Oriental environment committee led by board member Roy Aniscal once again deferred recommending the creation of a Minahang Bayan in barangay Limonda, Opol town on March 18.
This, after the committee told project proponents to first produce documents and submit them to the committee so the legislators would elevate the matter to their plenary.
Aside from Aniscal, the board members who were present in the committee meeting Wednesday were Dexter Yasay, Bliss Francis Acain and Rommel Maslog.
The following documents were required by the committee: governor’s permit, application fee for small-scale miners, permit form, sketch plan fee, filing and processing fee, area verification, new permit application, occupation fee, validated delivery receipts for non-metallic minerals and permit registration.
The Minahang Bayan program is a government initiative that aims to promote responsible small-scale mining in the country.
With an area of 175 square kilometers, barangay Limonda has heavy presence of gold and copper ores in accessible form.
Illegal mining in Limonda is a contentious issue for years.
