By CRIS DIAZ CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Exactly 177 fire victims in Macabalan, a coastal village in the port area of Cagayan de Oro City, received food assistance from the office of Deputy Speaker Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano.
Emano’s congressional office said that the 177 individuals consisted of 48 families received the assistance Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, a day after the fire occurred Tuesday evening, Nov 18, 2025.
The aid consisted of five-kilo rice, canned goods and noodles were distributed to the fire victims at their evacuation center in Macabalan Covered Cour adjacent to the Barangay Hall.
Fire investigators are still probing the cause of the fire that quickly spread to houses made of light materials in the area. “We find it hard penetrating the area because of the very tight pathways” a responding firefigther ssid.
Residents in the area expressed apprehensions after observing that fire frequently occurs in the area every year.
