The local government unit of Butuan was commended by the Department of Trade and Industry Caraga during the Creative Caraga Festival under the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) at the South Atrium of Robinsons Butuan yesterday.
Councilor Joseph Omar Andaya, as Chairperson of the Committee on Trade, Industry, and Economic Development, accepted the recognition.
“We are truly grateful to announce that our city has been recognized as the Top 2 Most-Improved City and placed within the Top 20 among Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in terms of competitiveness. This achievement is not merely a feather in our cap but a responsibility and an opportunity for us to continue building on this success. We are hoping that this will also serve as an inspiration not only for us but for the entire Caraga region,” Councilor Andaya stated.
Aside from Butuan City, awards were also given to other cities and municipalities: Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, was recognized as the Most Improved Component City; Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, was recognized as the Most Improved 1st to 2nd Class Municipality; Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, was recognized as the Most Improved 3rd to 4th Class Municipality; and San Isidro, Surigao del Norte, was recognized as the Most Improved 5th to 6th Class Municipality.
The CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities. It serves as a means to determine the competitiveness of each city and municipality by identifying their own resources and how they utilize them to enhance the lives of their residents.
The Local Government Unit of Butuan is delighted with the recognition received, attributing it to the collective efforts of the LGU Butuan along with partner agencies and stakeholders to improve the lives of Butuanon residents.
