SAGAY, CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Following the sudden death of incumbent Sagay Mayor Richard, Uayan, Vice Mayor Joseph Uayan takes his oath of office as the town’s mayor, along with Sangguniang Member Niel John Yangco as vice mayor, March 27, as administered by Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo.
“Vice Mayor Uayan’s assumption of the office of the mayor is not by election but by operation of law, as the vice mayor is the lawful successor of the office of the mayor if the elected mayor dies, becomes incapacitated, or removed from office, or resigns,” Romualdo said.
He added that the vice mayor position will be filled by the highest ranking Sangguniang Member, as provided in Section 44 of the Local Government Code.
“To our newly elected and installed mayor, Mayor Joseph Uayan, continue the good work, and Vice Mayor Neil John Yangco, continue the good work. Rest assured that our support for you, especially for the LGU Sagay, will continue to progress, and progress will never stop dinhi sa inyong lungsod (here in your town),” Romualdo said.
For his part, newly installed Mayor Uayan, who is also the brother of incumbent Mayor Richard Uayan, shared some details of his brother’s sudden death. He said they tried to revive him after the doctors at Catarman General Hospital said it was a heart attack, but his vitals ran low.
“As a newly installed mayor, as usual, ang Lungsod sa Sagay magpadayon sa pagsulong. Dili nako pasagdan ang Sagay. Ako usa ka amahan and wala ko’y laing gipangandoy kung dili ang atong lungsod mag-asenso,” Uayan said.
(As a newly installed mayor, the Municipality of Sagay will continue to advance as usual. I will not leave Sagay forsaken. I am a father, and I don’t wish for anything else for our town but for it to progress)
