Have you Read the Book God Wrote?
We know that the number one cause of global warming is the burning of fossil fuels that releases carbon dioxide into the earth’s atmosphere, where it is trapped and cause the earth’s temperature to rise. “Twenty-five percent of the trapped greenhouse gas will remain in the atmosphere for 25,000 years.” As explained by the famous technologist, business leader and philanthropist Bill Gates, “Fifty-two billion is how many tons of greenhouse gases the world typically adds to the atmosphere every year. Zero is what we aim for to save this beautiful blue planet. And such zero reduction should be rapidly done before 2030. Unless this is done, human life will be imperiled. Water shortages will make it increasingly hard to produce food. Some regions will become dangerously hot, while rising sea levels will make others unhabitable.” How can this be done? Can we stop the super-rich to stop sacrificing Mother Earth to the altar of greed and profit as these so-called “Masters of Mankind” are earning tremendous amount of money out of the unimaginable sufferings of billions of people? Indeed, the power of money is the principal disease of our time. Separating the economy from ecology is one of the greatest sins committed by the economists. No way can there be economic development without ecological growth as economics and ecology are one. Please understand the truism that nature is like a “home” where our basic needs are provided for. All these years, nature and sustenance economy has been replaced by extractive and consumerist economy, especially in the beautiful but broken island of Mindanao, now transformed into massive plantations, bombarding our ecosystems with toxic chemicals – all for money!
It must dawn upon all of us now that disaster can only be averted if we change the way we live. We must realize now that this crisis has been caused by our modern way of life, which, despite its considerable achievements is fatally flawed. We have ransacked nature, treating it as a mere resource because we have not read the book which God Himself has written. In a world that is giving high veneration to the profit motive because of the ego, saving Mother Earth means feeling our inter-connectivity and oneness with sacred nature. Let us now make some deep reflections on the book which is the manifestation of the Unseen Being.
In the frenzied pace to accumulate whatever it is to amass in a throw-away, materialistic and consumerist society, let us pause for a while. Let us detach ourselves temporarily from the mundane and reflect on the sublime to imbibe new spiritual consciousness, it behooves upon all of us to read seriously the book that God has authored, written in His own handwriting. That book is opened 24 hours a day and has no literacy requirement for it is not written in alphabets and can be well understood using not one but five senses.
That book is said to be a manifestation of the Unseen Being using the great void as its pages and the four elements of the Universe as its alphabets, namely: fire, water, earth and wind. It is called the book of nature written through the ages that contains all the mysteries of life and the laws that must be obeyed irrespective of race, color, belief, gender and class.
The 250 million stars in the cosmos can well speak of that element called fire that touches us through the glorious sun. Every time the sun proclaims a new day, that bursting of the light in the horizon shows that darkness can only be had in the absence of light and no way can the darkness defeat the light. In the same breath that truth always prevails over lies, righteousness over diabolic acts, love over hate, the just over the unjust, and life over death. But we even read in that book that even the darkness has some good in it because it shows us the stars.
From that element called water we have learned that flowing is the essence of life as to stagnate means diseases, sorrows and death. For it to flow, it must seek a lowly path as it gains more power by falling down. Thus, always be humble. In the 70s during the height of the First Quarter Storm, we always heard the adage, “Let not a single drop of rain go out to the sea without serving the people.” There is always that cleansing and healing power of water. It has been said that sometimes the passion of the heart emits so much heat which only dies down through the cooling effect of water we drink.
From the lowly earth grows the mighty tree and the beautiful flower. It may contain all that rot but even the wise, the powerful and the beautiful have to return to the earth as their final destination. The message is resoundingly clear: man has to continuously move on to seek his destiny but only by being humble can he be exalted. Once he flaunts his arrogance in utter disregard of the book of nature he dictates his own death sentence. He cannot continuously arrogate upon himself that false belief that he has been bestowed dominion over God’s creation. On the contrary, there is now the increasing consciousness of bio-equality recognizing the right to life of all God’s creation.
Often disregarded, even the unseen wind has its own story to tell as its fundamental role is only recognized in its absence. How can one live without air to breathe yet it is always taken for granted. Like our love ones whom we have more often taken for granted, yet so integral to us that we cannot live, in fact, without them.
As we read the book of nature, let us feel the great stillness that is the reflection of the Creator and to feel the peace that “passeth all understanding.” That peace will be the path towards a new consciousness, to the vast spaciousness and formless dimension which liberates us from object and form consciousness and from that principal disease called the power of money. In doing so, we will discover who truly we are – CONSCIOUSNESS connected to the Ocean of Consciousness called God. When that happens, we will leap-up to that transcendental dimension where the Universal Intelligence governs, liberated from the EGO that now controls the mindset of humanity especially our egoic leaders. Then, a new earth will loom.
The book of nature presents laws which are very easy to understand but have been violated all these years. It says that everything is inter-connected. When forests are denuded, soil erodes forming silts which are carried by the rivers to the sea, destroying the coral reefs which are the habitats of fish and other marine life. This scenario gives credence to that saying that what evil deeds man does in the uplands are felt by those in the coastal communities. The worsening ecological disasters are the concrete evidence why it has become imperative for us to now give high reverence to that book as indeed, there is no such thing as free meal in nature. After having desecrated the environment no end, please read the strong message of sacred nature: ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE CUT THE LAST TREE, ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE CAUGHT THE LAST FISH, ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE DRIED THE LAST RIVER, ONLY THEN YOU WILL REALIZE THAT YOU CANNOT EAT YOUR MONEY. Indeed, the power of money is the principal disease of our time! That disease that is killing Mother Earth and putting billions facing now unimaginable sufferings is a concrete proof that civilization cannot survive existing capitalism. It is in this context that the Modern-Day American Imperialism will soon end, otherwise life on earth will end either through NUCLEAR WAR OR through ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE. Let us therefore join the tens of thousands of environmentalists worldwide protesting weekly in several countries in launching a compassionate revolution to save Mother Earth from climate disaster – all for God’s greater glory!
