Hanging my Pen

At times, I am considering hanging my pen for good. However, the urged to continue writing is always irresistible. I am reticent about the controversies and anomalies of national proportion. I don’t want to write or talk about it. Otherwise, my opinion or criticism about the issue would end up like copycat articles. Thus, I find it insignificant to share my thoughts at all.

What really interest me are issues in the locality. These issues directly affects our daily lives. For instance, the controversy about garbage collection. The garbage problem is integral in all highly urbanized city. Cagayan de Oro City no exception. While there are local laws purposely enacted to manage the collection and disposal of urban garbage, sending violators to jail is not an option.

Another issue confronting the people of Cagayan de Oro is the water supply. The Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) is in the eye of the storm on issues involving clean and uninterrupted water supply. Aside from COWD, there are other private water supply players, too. These alternative water suppliers also faced common issues about uninterrupted water supplies and clean potable water.

It is in this context, that I decided to write again. Now, to focus on local issues. I am compelled to go back to local issues because these problems persist. Is there anything wrong if we shall continue to write and talk about these perennial issues? My point here is to remind those in power that they have not resolved these local problems at all. Isn’t it interesting if we tackle problems confronting the city and the province of Misamis Oriental? For instance, the incumbent administration is working to establish an ideal governance through transparency and accountability. Of course, transparency and accountability are values enshrined in legislations acted by both the local and the nationak government.

Well, our readers is welcomed to make suggestions and comments on issues confronting local governance. Email your brightest ideas/opinions to [email protected]. Thus space is for all the community at large. Starting today, we will entertain Marites provided it properly observe decorum and restraint.

(Here is MARITES: “Decisions of an elected official is reportedly dictated by a trusted ally with a questionable credibility.)
