THE poverty incidence among families in Northern Mindanao in 2025 was estimated at 14.4 percent, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 10 during the release of the 2025 official poverty statistics for Northern Mindanao October 23 at N Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.
This is translated to approximately 194,000 poor families in 2025 but slightly lower than 227,000 families in 2023.
The poverty incidence among families in the region was observed to be higher than the national poverty incidence among families which was estimated at 6.4 percent in 2025.
With the number of poor families nationwide pegged at 1.9 million, this figure means that 10.2 percent of them are from Northern Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the PSA computed that the average poverty threshold for a family of five in Region 10 is at P14,938 per month.
“This is the minimum amount needed to cover the basic food and non-food needs of a family,” said PSA 10 director Janith Aves. “Those families with income below this threshold are considered to be living in poverty.”
This poverty threshold is seven percent higher than in 2023 regionwide.
These figures highlight the continuing importance of inclusive growth, sustainable livelihood opportunities, and targeted programs that help families meet their basic needs and improve their quality of life, Aves further said.
The forum also highlighted the 2025 Family Income and Expenditure Survey, the official poverty estimation methodology, and the region’s full-year poverty statistics.
These data provide vital insights to help guide government planning, shape development programs, and strengthen interventions aimed at improving the lives of Filipino families, PSA stated.
