Foundever, BJMP Puerto Princesa launch digital skills initiative for rehabilitation

In a groundbreaking initiative to foster hope and create pathways to a brighter future, the University and Community Partnership (UCP) of Foundever® in Palawan partnered with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Puerto Princesa to deliver a transformative Digital Literacy Skills Training Program.

The collaboration with Language Academy at Foundever in Palawan is part of BJMP’s comprehensive rehabilitation program for its inmates. The one-day intensive training session covered essential digital knowledge, including basic computer operations, typing skills, and proficiency in digital tools, crucial skills for successful reintegration into today’s technology-driven workforce.

“Education and skills development are powerful tools for transformation,” said Freda Lou Caguin, Site Director for Foundever in Palawan. “By providing digital literacy training to individuals within the correctional system, we’re teaching more than just computer skills–we’re also offering hope, dignity, and real opportunities for a fresh start when they return to their communities.”

The program reflects the commitment of Foundever to inclusive community development, focusing on skill-building that helps people rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of reoffending. Through practical, hands-on learning experiences, participants gained exposure to digital technologies that are increasingly essential in modern employment across various industries.

“We believe everyone deserves a second chance and should be provided with the right tools to succeed,” added Caguin. “This partnership with BJMP demonstrates how private sector expertise can meaningfully contribute to the justice system’s rehabilitation goals, ultimately benefiting both individuals and society as a whole.”

By focusing on practical and employable skills, the program aims to enhance participants’ prospects for successful community reintegration and sustainable employment opportunities upon release. The program aligns with national criminal justice reform efforts emphasizing rehabilitation over strict penalties alone.

This initiative highlights  the broader commitment of Foundever to empowering communities through education, extending UCP and the Language Academy’s mission beyond traditional workforce development to encompass transformative social impact initiatives across the Philippines.
