Former Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez has passed away at the age of 52, the poll body announced Wednesday. Jimenez was one of the most recognizable public voices of the Commission, serving the institution and the Filipino people for nearly two decades across several national and local elections.
Jimenez served as Comelec spokesperson from July 2006 to September 2022. At the time of his appointment, he became both the youngest and longest-serving spokesperson in government. Throughout multiple election cycles, he acted as the public face of the Commission, regularly addressing the media and the public during periods of intense scrutiny and national importance. He was known for his calm manner, clear explanations, and consistent presence during critical moments in election administration.
Aside from serving as spokesperson, Jimenez also held the position of Director IV of the Comelec Education and Information Department. In this role, he focused on strengthening voter education and improving public access to election-related information. He played a key role in establishing the Commission’s official social media platforms, providing citizens with a direct channel to raise concerns, ask questions, and receive timely updates.
