Former President Rodrigo Duterte has taken responsibility for the actions of law enforcers during his term, stating “I will protect you,” and acknowledging that he will be held accountable for everything. This admission comes as Duterte was taken into custody by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Duterte’s statement, “Ako ang managot sa lahat” (“I will be responsible for everything”), underscores his willingness to accept responsibility for the consequences of his administration’s policies, particularly the war on drugs.
It’s worth noting that Duterte had previously challenged the ICC to investigate him, saying “I am asking the ICC to hurry up and, if possible, if they can come here and start the investigation tomorrow”.
His admission of responsibility and willingness to cooperate with the ICC marks a significant development in the case against him.
