CWC ensures better water access via Alibugho water system

CAMIGUIN (PIA)—To improve public health, eliminate water shortages, and reduce leakage in the existing water supply area, the Camiguin Water Company (CWC), along with the province’s local officials, led the inauguration of the Alibugho Water Supply System, April 20, at Tupsan Pequeño, Mahinog, here.

The said water supply system, with a one million-liter daily capacity, targets to provide 821 water connections to Barangays Tupsan, Tupsan Grande, Catuhogan, and Hubangon.

“Hopefully, this would just be one of many water sources that we will be developing in Camiguin. We actually target to develop more than three new water supply systems in Mambajao and even here in Mahinog,” said Mizu Resources, Inc. President and CEO Rowena Dalosa.

Started in 2020, the water supply system has a 7-kilometer pipeline and currently has 218 confirmed connections, said CWC General Manager Danvir Farnazo.

“Kami sa Mahinog lang, dili gyud pa namo makaya nga ma-full gyud namo pagpadagan ang panubig sa Lungsod sa Mahinog. Naa man gyu’y mureklamo kay lage naanad man ang atong katawhan nga wala’y bayad. Kita na lang sa Mahinog ang wala pa’y metering,” said Mahinog Mayor Lawrence Tan.

(We in Mahinog, we can’t afford to fully run the water in the Municipality of Mahinog. There are always people who complain because our people are used to not paying their water bill. We in Mahinog are the only ones who do not have metering yet)

Thus, Tan urged the leaders of the barangays to help the people understand why they have to take full responsibility for paying their obligations, especially in basic utilities.

For his part, Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo emphasized that prior to pushing for Smart Tourism in the province, people should first attain security in terms of basic services, which include access to safe and potable water.

During the inauguration of the water system, CWC also held the turnover ceremony of the Hubangon Fire Hydrant to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

“Bisan pa’g kumpleto sa gamit nang Bureau of Fire, di gyapon kaapas kay wala ma’y masaluran og tubig. Kung mahuman ni ang linya, hangyo nako butangan lang og fire hydrant,” Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said.

(Even though the Bureau of Fire is fully equipped, it is not enough if there is no water supply. When the line is completed, I request that a fire hydrant be installed)

He added that they will also ensure that every barangay will have the capacity to respond to fire incidents aside from providing fire trucks and equipment. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
