For many years of being a Journalist,I am a now well known vocal critic of this government, expressing my frustrations through writing. My observations regarding the administration’s movements and sneaky calculations have often resonated with the public, emphasizing significant issues that many citizens feel deeply. Recently, the resignation of key Cabinet members seemed to signal an acknowledgment of widespread disappointment among the electorate. However, this pronouncent may merely be a façade masking deeper loyalty tests within the administration.
The recent courtesy resignation sparked discussions about its implications for President Marcos Jr.’s leadership. It was initially perceived as a hopeful sign that he recognized the electorate’s discontent following the midterm elections. Many believed it could lead to positive changes and accountability in governance. Unfortunately, this hope quickly faded as it became clear that such resignations were less about addressing public grievances and more about consolidating loyalty among those who remain in power.
The political cognitive dissonance has shifted since former President Rodrigo Duterte’s tenure, where loyalty superseded competence in cabinet appointments. Now,those who opposed Marcos faced removal while individuals associated with controversial practices remained entrenched in their positions. This repeated pattern of mistakes raises concerns about whether President Marcos Jr. is genuinely committed to reform or if he is merely perpetuating a cycle of favoritism that undermines public trust.
The appointment of General Nicolas Torre as PNP Chief exemplifies this troubling behaviour. His controversial history has made him one of the most polarizing figures in
a twisted form of arrogance has even gained him a favor from the President. Many citizens view his promotion as a betrayal rather than a step towards accountability, further eroding confidence in President Marcos Jr.’s ability to lead effectively and ethically.
The series of misleading decisions under President Marcos Jr.’s leadership has led to widespread calls for his resignation from an electorate frustrated by unfulfilled promises and questionable appointments. The hope for change appears diminished as loyalists are favored over those advocating for genuine reform. The majority of our nation deserves better representation and accountability—it’s time for decisive action.
