CAGAYAN de Oro City marked the opening and launching of National Cooperative Month on Sunday, October 4.

The event was attended by local cooperatives from Region 10, as well as officials of the Cooperative Development Authority, together with the Regional Cooperative Development Council–10 (RCDC), which served as the host for the National Cooperative Month activities held in the city.

In a message from City Mayor Rolando Uy, delivered through City Councilor Gilda “Gigi” Go, Chairperson of the Committee on Cooperatives, the mayor expressed his appreciation for the cooperative sector’s continued partnership in community development.

He also expressed hope that unity among cooperatives would be further strengthened in line with this year’s theme: Matibay na Kooperatiba Nagkakaisang Pamayanan, para sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran.

“And I know how much our Mayor values the work being done by cooperatives,” Go said. “At the end of the day, this is really about people – people helping people; people creating opportunities for one another and people choosing to grow together. Mao g’yud na ang essence sa kooperatiba.”

“Dili lang ni about business, income or numbers. Behind every cooperative are families, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and ordinary people nga nagtinabangay para makasugod, makabarog ug mauswag. And I think this is worth celebrating,” she added.

Meanwhile, the local government of Cagayan de Oro, through the Community Improvement Division (CID), continues to support the cooperative movement by developing programs that promote cooperatives as an important driver of economic development and provide benefits to every member of the community.
