CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc. (COBI) extended anew the water disconnection deadline for another 30 days, the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) said Saturday.
COWD officials made the announcement late Friday after a meeting with COBI officials just as the 12-day disconnection notice was to take effect April 13, 2024.
The new 30-day water supply extension will end on May 12, 2024.
With the extended deadline, the Cagayan de Oro’s more than 168,000 households are assured of water supply, the COWD statement said.
However, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy still appealed to COBI and COWD to settle their financial differences to assure the Cagayanons of water supply.
Uy also welcomed the resolution passed by the City Council allowing the Rio Verde Bulk Water Consortiums to supply bulk water directly to the COWD.
The City Council passed the resolution in anticipation of the April 12, 2024 deadline earlier set by COBI to cut the water supply to the COWD.
The issue stemmed from the failure of the COWD to settle the alleged P 426 million water bill to COBI, the bulk water supplier to the city’s water district.
