ABBA’s timeless hits come to life this November as Cayayan de Oro’s homegrown Metropolitan Kagay-an Orchestra celebrates the music of the legendary Swedish pop grop at Capitol Unversity’s Dona Laureana San Fedro Rosales Mini Theater.
The concert will feature orchestral renditions, offerng audiences a fresh take on ABBA’s beloved classics.
Dubbed Thank Vou for the Music: A Metropoltan Kagay-an Orchestra Concert, the show is MKO’s grand production for the year, following the frst half of 2028 spent performing at various local events and organizing community initiatives, including the Kwerdas summer string workshop held at Carmen Art District.
While this is not the orchestra’s first major concert, it’s the frst time MKO is dedicating an entire repertoire to the music of a single group.
ABBA is a fittng choice, with songs that have transcended time and generations.
Almost everyone knows at least one or two
(or perhaps too many) ABBA hits.
Hearing classics such as Mamma Mia and Super Trouper reimagined through orchestral arrangements promises a musical experience unlike any other.
Maestro Krenz Sabanal – the show’s head conductor and director – will lead a full orchestra of homegrown musicians, a dynamic blend of emerging young talents and seasoned performers, uniting local artists.
MKO committed to creating opportunities for creative expression and growth and to introducing orchestral music to wider audiences.
The orchestra implemented a formal onboarding and contract signing process for members, advancing its goal of professionalizing the local orchestra community and raising standards for collaborative music making.
The concert will be held on November 13 and 14, 2026 at the Capitol University Mini Theater.
On November 13, showtimes are at 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. while November 14 will have two performances at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
