Senator Bong Go expressed his sentiments during the Senate hearing on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC). According to Go, he does not understand why the government allowed a Filipino to be arrested in their own country.
“Paano at bakit tayo umabot sa ganitong sitwasyon? Mayroon naman tayong sariling batas at korte? Bakit pinayagan ng gobyerno na dakipin po ang isang Pilipino sa sarili nating bayan?” Go asked.
He further stated, “Bagamat nirerespeto natin ang pagdinig na ito, sinasabi ko rin po ang aking mga hinanakit na parang too late na po… Walang problema sa akin mag-hearing kahit araw-araw po pero ang tanong, maibabalik n’yo pa ba si Tatay Digong? ‘Yan ang tinatawag ko na too late the hero… Useless lahat ng hearing na ito kung hindi na po maibabalik si Tatay Digong.”
Duterte is currently in ICC custody in The Hague, Netherlands, and is set to face the court again to confirm his case on September 23, 2025.
