Misamis Oriental Vice Governor Jigjag Pelaez has denied allegations that provincial board members deliberately avoided attending the inaugural address of newly elected Governor Juliette Uy. The ceremony took place on July 1, 2025, at the Provincial Capitol grounds.
According to Pelaez, he was not present at the event because he was attending his daughter’s oath-taking ceremony as a municipal councilor in Medina, a coastal town located 109 kilometers east of Cagayan de Oro City. Other board members claimed they received invitations but were out of town on that day.

Attendance Highlights:
- Only one board member attended: Princess Emano was the sole representative from the provincial board at Governor Uy’s inauguration.
- Vice Governor’s explanation: Pelaez cited a prior commitment to his daughter’s oath-taking ceremony as the reason for his absence.
- Other board members’ excuse: Claimed to be out of town or had prior engagements.

Governor Uy’s Call for Unity
In her inaugural address, Governor Uy emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving the province’s development goals. She urged fellow Misamisnons to put aside their differences and work together towards a common objective. “The election is over. Let us now work together. Politics is only temporary,” Uy said.
This call for unity comes as Governor Uy faces the challenge of delivering results and inspiring inclusive development in the province. With her background in legislation and local governance, she is well-equipped to lead Misamis Oriental towards progress.
