THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region X destroyed 232 confiscated mobile phones,today held at the Pueblo de Oro Township, infront of 4Kings Event Center, CdeO, as part of its continuing efforts to maintain security and order in jail facilities across Northern Mindanao.
Led by Regional Director of the Jail Bureau, JCSUPT FELIXBERTO S JAGORIN JR, DSC, the activity involved the destruction of 157 smartphones and 75 keypad phones confiscated during jail security inspections, mostly at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail – Male Dormitory.
The confiscated devices were turned over to the Regional Office for proper disposition before their destruction.
The activity reinforces BJMP Region X’s strict implementation of security measures against prohibited items inside jail facilities.
The presence of unauthorized mobile phones poses security concerns and may compromise the safe and orderly management of jails.
Under existing procedures, confiscated items are handled according to their nature.
Money and jewelry are subject to forfeiture proceedings, while suspected illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia are submitted to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Forensic Laboratory for examination.
Improvised bladed weapons, other deadly weapons, nuisance contraband and mobile phones are disposed of in accordance with applicable procedures and evidentiary requirements.
Through these measures, BJMP Region X remains committed to ensuring the safekeeping and humane treatment of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) while strengthening security, discipline, and order in all jail facilities under its jurisdiction.
