PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur — In preparation for the much-anticipated Palarong Pambansa 2026, the provincial government of Agusan del Sur has launched a provincewide clean-up drive to ensure that the area remains pristine and ready for the national sporting event.
Gov. Santiago B. Cane Jr., in a newly issued Executive Order No. 18 Series of 2026, directed the conduct of the clean-up initiative scheduled for April 24, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. This initiative is aimed at clearing the province’s streets, public markets, parks, and key venues to uphold public health, environmental protection, and the province’s positive image as it hosts thousands of athletes, officials, and spectators from across the country for the Palaro.
The clean-up drive will cover critical areas, including national highways, provincial and municipal roads, and local roads in municipalities likeSibagat, Trento, Talacogon, and Esperanza. The initiative will also target designated playing venuesandbilleting quarters for athletes, as well as public markets, parks, and other key public spaces across the province.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), in coordination with local government units (LGUs), will spearhead the clean-up efforts. The initiative aims to encourage a collective effort across the province, with participation from municipal governments, barangay officials, and various stakeholders. Local governments are urged to issue complementary orders to carry out this clean-up, both before and during the Palaro event.
Governor Cane emphasized the importance of a unified effort in ensuring that the province’s public spaces are not only clean but also conducive to the health and safety of both residents and visitors. “A clean environment is essential for the success of the Palaro and for the pride of our people,” he said in a statement.
In addition to waste collection, sweeping, and weed clearing, the clean-up will also focus on waste segregation and proper disposal. Volunteers and participating personnel are encouraged to bring their own cleaning materials such as gloves, trash bags, drinking water, and sun protection to ensure the event’s safety and efficiency.
The clean-up drive will be a joint effort, with each city and municipal unit responsible for leading the activities within their jurisdiction. Photo documentation of the event is also required, with submissions sent to the provincial government’s designated email at [email protected].
Governor Cane’s directive aligns with the province’s commitment to creating a welcoming and well-maintained environment for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2026. The clean-up initiative, combined with the massive infrastructure improvements being made to the Datu Lipus Makapandong DO Plaza Sports Complex, underscores Agusan del Sur’s readiness to host this prestigious national sporting event from May 24 to 31, 2026.
The executive order, which takes effect immediately, not only serves as a practical effort to prepare the province but also as a demonstration of Agusan del Sur’s dedication to promoting public health and environmental sustainability.
