THE Green GSM taxicabs currently seen plying in Cagayan de Oro City are here for reflection and mapping purposes only and are not authorized to operate as public utility vehicles.

This was the clarification made by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 assistant director Mohammad Hajam Sarip during the 52nd regular session of the City Council on September 14.

Sarip said the city government has the authority to stop or disrupt the operation of the green GSM taxis since they are not authorized to pick up passengers or operate in the same manner as the city’s existing white taxis.

Meanwhile, the coordinators of the Green GSM taxis from El Salvador City are scheduled to have a final meeting with Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy and with the authorities on September 22 to further discuss the matter.

The council cited the need for proper coordination and communication among the concerned parties, particularly after reports that some green GSM taxis have already been picking up passengers within the city.

The City Council also pointed out that should the Green GSM taxis be allowed to operate in Cagayan de Oro, their operators would need to secure the necessary local business permits, pay applicable taxes, and comply with all requirements imposed by the city and relevant government agencies.

For this reason, City Hall is seeking LTFRB assistance to ensure that any possible operation of the green GSM taxis is properly coordinated and carried out in accordance with existing laws and regulations. CIO
