SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — The water supply situation in Butuan City has shown improvement following the increase in water delivery from the Taguibo Aquatech Solutions Corporation (TASC), according to the latest monitoring of the Butuan City Water District (BCWD), according to a report by Butuan City Public Information Office
BCWD announced that TASC’s bulk water delivery increased from 19.84 million liters per day (MLD) to an expected 40 MLD beginning noon of September 13, 2026. Combined with 8.59 MLD from three BCWD pump stations, the city’s total available water supply is projected to reach 48.59 MLD, higher than the previous day’s 28.43 MLD supply.
The improvement was attributed to rainfall recorded in the Taguibo Watershed, which helped raise the water level of the Taguibo River. Latest monitoring showed that the dam water level increased from 3.6 meters to 4.5 meters due to continued rains in the area.
Despite the improvement, BCWD clarified that water pressure and supply restoration may not immediately be experienced in all areas, particularly in locations that are higher and farther from the distribution system.
Meanwhile, some residents welcomed the reported increase in water availability but also raised concerns regarding continued supply interruptions in several areas. Comments on BCWD’s social media update included calls for long-term solutions, such as developing additional water sources and addressing recurring supply issues.
Other netizens also shared concerns about areas that continue to experience limited supply despite the reported improvement, with some residents asking BCWD to look into distribution challenges and service reliability. Some commenters questioned the city’s reliance on rainfall as a major factor in improving water availability and urged the search for more sustainable water sources.
BCWD and TASC said they will continue monitoring water levels, bulk water supply, and distribution conditions across the city as water sources remain affected by drought conditions.
Residents are encouraged to continue conserving water while efforts are being undertaken to stabilize the city’s supply situation.
