CAGAYAN de Oro City Councilor Enrico Salcedo – the chairman of the committee on public utilities – is strongly urging existing taxi operators and cooperatives in the city to adopt the entry of electric units.
This, as the entry of Green GSM in Region 10 is already inevitable with 200 units already parked at the facility’s spacious depot in barangay Taytay, El Salvador City.
It was learned that many taxi drivers in Cagayan de Oro City are wary with the entry of Green GSM here, saying it would diminish their livelihood.
This prompted Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 director Alexes Joseph Bendijo to remark over the weekend that the units will be deployed elsewhere in the region.
But Salcedo said that with their environment-friendly features, electric vehicles are now the future of land conveyances and local transport groups must consider this reality into their day to day operations.
Salcedo is set to discuss this development along with other pertinent transport concerns during their next management committee meeting with Bendijo, city legal officer Kenneth Tamala and the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) later this week.
