GINGOOG CITY — In line with Rotary’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, fellowship, and community involvement, the Rotary Club of Gingoog successfully organized a two-day Pickleball Training Clinic on May 27-28 at E-Court, Guanzon-Gundaya Streets, Barangay 6, Gingoog City.

The activity brought together Rotarians, community members, and sports enthusiasts eager to learn one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. More than just a sports clinic, the event served as an opportunity to strengthen friendships, encourage physical wellness, and foster camaraderie among participants.

The program opened with registration, an opening prayer, and welcome remarks from Rotary Club of Gingoog President Lemuel Prado, who emphasized the importance of sports and recreation in building stronger and healthier communities.
Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of pickleball through a comprehensive orientation led by Assistant Governor Julio Aldyn Valdevilla, together with Rotary officers and resource speakers. Discussions covered the history of the sport, court layout and equipment, and the basic rules of play.

Under the guidance of Coach and President- Elect Arkan Pabatao, participants engaged in hands-on training sessions covering proper grip, ready position, forehand and backhand strokes, serving techniques, return-of-serve drills, dinking, and volley training. The first day concluded with a recap and announcements led by Executive Secretary Rubio Lopez.

The second day focused on practical application and game play. Participants reviewed fundamental skills before advancing to court movement, positioning, doubles communication, and practice games with coaching support. The event also featured an exhibition game led by Assistant Governor Julio Aldyn Valdevilla and Secretary Rogene Go, showcasing proper techniques and strategies in actual play.

The training clinic concluded with closing remarks from PAG Leo Pollentes and a group photo, celebrating the participants’ accomplishments and newly acquired skills.

Rotary leaders expressed optimism that the activity would encourage more individuals to embrace active lifestyles while strengthening relationships within the community. Through initiatives such as the Pickleball Training Clinic, the Rotary Club of Gingoog continues to demonstrate Rotary’s spirit of service, fellowship, and commitment to improving quality of life through meaningful community engagement.

As pickleball continues to gain popularity worldwide, local initiatives like this help introduce the sport to more people while creating opportunities for learning, wellness, and lasting connections among community members.
