Manila, Philippines – Malacañang confirmed today, March 14, 2025, that it covered the cost of the chartered plane used by former President Rodrigo Duterte for his trip to The Hague, Netherlands.

According to Palace press officer Claire Castro, the payment was made as part of the Philippines’ assistance to Interpol. However, she did not provide further details regarding the nature of the assistance or the total cost of the chartered flight.

During a press briefing, Castro addressed the Duterte family’s response to the former president’s arrest, describing it as “normal.” She also urged Duterte’s relatives to remain calm amid the ongoing legal proceedings.

The revelation has sparked discussions on government spending and transparency, with critics questioning the necessity of funding the former president’s travel. Meanwhile, administration officials maintain that the expenses were justified in line with international commitments.
