MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief PMGen Nicolas Torre III has issued a public apology for the “special treatment” provided to former President Rodrigo Duterte on March 11.

According to Torre, the decision was made to ensure a smoother process in facilitating Duterte’s transfer to The Hague, where he is facing legal proceedings.

The CIDG chief acknowledged the concerns raised by the public regarding preferential treatment but emphasized that the primary objective was to maintain order and security during the transfer. He assured that law enforcement agencies remain committed to upholding due process and equal treatment under the law.

The handling of Duterte’s departure has sparked debates, with some questioning whether the treatment was justified, while others argue that it was necessary given his status as a former head of state.

Authorities continue to monitor developments surrounding Duterte’s case as legal proceedings progress in The Hague.
