The 57th Infantry (MASIKAP) Battalion, under the leadership of LTC AERON T GUMABAO INF (GSC) PA, successfully facilitated the Political Candidates’ Forum/Peace Covenant Signing and the Symbolic Presentation of Loose Firearms in the Municipality of Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
The surrendered firearms were formally presented to BGEN MICHAEL A SANTOS PA, Commander of the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade, alongside Hon. Frederick F. Celestial, Municipal Mayor of Lebak, and the Municipal Election Officer, in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP), on January 30, 2025, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Lebak.
This activity demonstrates the commitment and collaborative efforts of the AFP and PNP in addressing the issue of loose firearms, a tool of violence. This concerted action reflects our dedication to restoring peace and order in Lebak and alleviates the fear instilled by such weapons in the community.
During the event, 61 assorted loose firearms were presented: 27 from 57IB, 23 from the 2nd Sultan Kudarat Provincial Mobile Force Company, and 11 from the PNP Lebak Municipal Police Station. The community voluntarily surrendered all of them.
In his inspirational message, BGEN SANTOS stated, ” “As members of the security sector, we, the Armed Forces, recognized the significance of peaceful and orderly elections. Our role is clear: to safeguard the democratic process by ensuring that people can exercise their rights freely without fear or intimidation. We remain steadfast in our duty to uphold the law, prevent violence, and counter any threats that may distract peace and stability. Hangarin po natin ay ang mas mapayapa at mas matatag na komunidad para sa lahat ng mamamayan.”
