25 former rebels undertake “Balik-Loob” program

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–A total of 25 former rebels (FRs) will brace a 10-day Balik-Loob Program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) with the government’s reintegration efforts for members of the CPP-NPA-NDF alongside their immediate family members.

The government reintegration program will provide an avenue for FRs and their families to change their current lives and aid in reintegration while receiving tailor-fit support from the government.

Former rebels were given the opportunity to open up and express what other assistance will benefit them aside from psychosocial interventions. One concern raised by the FRs was the legal assistance from the PLEDS Cluster of the NTF-ELCAC regarding pending warrants and other unlawful offenses as part of reintegration.

Outgoing 58IB Commander Ricky Canatoy emphasized the importance of this activity as the start of their journey towards their integration into the new environment.

“It will be the most crucial part in twisting their state of mind from violence into rediscovering and rebuilding their identity as new-born citizens of the community that is free from the twisted ideology,” he said.

The deradicalization of FRs is a prerequisite prior to the handing over of the Enhanced Comprehensive Localized Integration Program (E-CLIP) benefits that include Immediate Cash assistance, firearms remuneration, and livelihood training to fully reintegrate the FRs into society.
