1,208 food businesses in Misor receive DTI training

By MARK FRANCISCO

MORE than a thousand food service providers in Misamis Oriental have received training from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the last five years.

During a press conference last Wednesday with the Philippine Information Agency at Limketkai Center, DTI Misamis Oriental business development division chief Jesusa Abear said that these businesses belong mostly to the micro enterprises category.

The 1,208 MSMEs in the food sector have received training under DTI’s enhanced modularized business learning sessions. The enhanced modularized business learning session is three months long with one on one coaching and mentoring sessions that tackle marketing, production and operation, human resource and organizational management, and financial management. It is offered to businesses in Misamis Oriental which have undergone the basic entrepreneurship seminar.

Other food businesses in the province which have received DTI training were recipients of the agency’s Kapatid Mentor Me program. Kapatid Mentor Me program helps MSMEs scale up their operations and level up with the more established ones.

Similar to the enhanced modularized business learning session, the Kapatid Mentor Me program also tackles topics such as product development and marketing but also include other areas as well such as accounting, taxation, finance, obligations and contracts, supply and value chain, succession planning and business plan development.

“Ang isa sa amoang mandate is enabling business and the other one is empowering consumers. So sa enabling business, diha ang usa sa atong programa is MSME development. So naa ta different programs nga i-assist nato katong gusto mag-negosyo, ang katong gusto mag-expand sa ilahang businesses,” Abear said.
