‘Tribal’ leaders, members in Surigao rounded up

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The leaders and members of a tribal group were arrested on alleged charges with usurpation of authority in the village of Sabang, Surigao City, Thursday.

A report monitored from here identified the suspect as Jorgeto Corpuz Santisas, also known as “Datu Adlaw,” leader of the Federal Tribal Government of the Philippines (FTGP) and Lourdes Infante alias “Reyna Lourdes,” along with dozen of their members.

Armed with a warrant of arrest, elements of the Surigao City Police Office swooped down on the FTGP compound in the village of Sabang, Surigao City Thursday morning.

Law enforcers seized amulets, machetes and other paraphernalia in the possession of the FTGP during the Thursday morning raid.

Businessmen and residents in Surigao City complained that the group of Datu Adlaw forcibly padlocked their stores when owners refused to pay “taxes” to the FTGP.

The group also allegedly threatened to sow terror in the city once their leaders and members are arrested.

The suspects are now in the custody of the Surigao Police for proper disposition.

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in Caraga Region said that the FTGP led by Datu Adlaw ang Reyna Lourdes, is not registered with the NCIP.
