Tawi-Tawi Police Provincial Director urges people to cooperate on intensified campaign vs criminals

BY JESSIE MONGCAL, MDN News Bureau

TAWI-TAWI PROVINCE – A top-official of the Philippine National Police in this province has urged the people to cooperate in the police intensified campaign against criminal activities, as well as during the monthlong celebration of Kamahardikaan.

Kamahardikaan, which means “freedom”, signifies the birth of Tawi-Tawi province, which was separated from Sulu province on Sept. 27, 1973.

“Makikiusap lang po tayo sa ating mamamayan to cooperate so that the celebration of “Kamahardikaan Sin Tawi-Tawi” will be generally peaceful,” Provincial Director Richard Basco said.

He said the people’s cooperation is very vital in maintaining the peace and order most especially during the monthlong celebration of Kamahardikaan.

ang Kamahardikaan,” Basco said.

TRAFFIC PROBLEM

He said despite the developments in Bongao town, the roads are still small as comapared to other developed municipalities in Mindanao.

DRUG MENACE

He said although there are still drug problems but very minimal and manageable as compared to other places in the country. Drugs, he said, are no longer a big problem in Tawi-Tawi.

But Director also said there were arrests in the past in regards to the drug menace but only small cases and it’s not alarming.

ELECTION

Dir Basco said during the barangay elections this coming October 30, the provincial police command will have an adjustment as how the SK and Barangay Elections will be managed.

Generally, the provincial dirctor said, the conduct of the elections in Tawi-Tawi will be peaceful.
