PNP Confirms Recall of Senator Dela Rosa’s Security Detail

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed the withdrawal of two police officers assigned to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa as part of compliance with election security regulations. This comes after days of speculation following the senator’s revelation that his security detail had been reduced.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo clarified that the recall was carried out in accordance with Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 11067. The resolution enforces restrictions on security personnel assigned to government officials during the election period, aiming to prevent any potential misuse of state resources that could influence the electoral process.

According to Fajardo, the officers were not recently removed but had already been withdrawn as early as January. She explained that the recall was not an isolated case but part of a broader enforcement of election-related security policies affecting multiple government officials and agencies.

Despite the withdrawal, Fajardo assured that Dela Rosa still retains four security personnel who were granted exemptions by Comelec. These officers remain assigned to him to ensure his safety while complying with election security protocols.

The recall of security personnel during the election season is a standard practice implemented to maintain neutrality and fairness in the political landscape. Government officials and candidates seeking additional security during this period are required to apply for exemptions through Comelec, which evaluates each request based on potential threats and security risks.

Dela Rosa, a former chief of the PNP and a key figure in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, has not issued further statements regarding the security adjustment. However, his case highlights the ongoing efforts to regulate the deployment of government security forces in line with election laws.

As the election period progresses, Comelec and law enforcement agencies continue to monitor compliance with security regulations to ensure a fair and secure electoral process.
