Ozamiz City offers rehabbed ex-drug users new lease at farm life

67 rehabilitated drug users in Ozamiz City were given the chance to start over and rejoin their community, as they were selected to be the latest beneficiaries of the local government unit’s (LGU) Sustainable Livelihood Assistance Program.

Out of the 67 PWUDs beneficiaries, three of them received goats, 14 received piglets, and 50 of them received pairs of breeding chickens.

This is in line with the LGU objective’s to provide alternative sources of income for reformed drug users through agricultural activities, while reintegrating them into their respective communities.

“Our intention is to help rehabilitated drug users get back on their feet and become a productive member of our society,” Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr. said in a statement.

“If they are indeed sincere in changing for the better, we want them to know that our government is here to help them succeed,” he added.

The former drug users are residents of the five drug-cleared barangays of Gala, Diguan, Pantaon, Dimaluna, and Gutocan Diot.

Oaminal’s office, in coordination with the City Veterinary Office, City Health Office, Philippine National Police, and City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, led the distribution of the livelihood assistance packages.

Speaking on behalf of Oaminal during the distribution proper, Vice Mayor Simplicia Neri conveyed the city government’s appreciation and gratitude to the rehabilitated drug users for allowing themselves to be rehabilitated and renew life.

Neri assured the beneficiaries of continuous support from the local government.

The city’s implementation of the Sustainable Livelihood Assistance Program is anchored on the administration’s Asenso Ozamiz platform, together with the assistance of 2nd District Representative Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal, and Governor Henry Oaminal.

It is also part of the administration’s Aftercare Program for reformed drug users who graduated from the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program.
